What is Udyam Registration? 

​

Udyam Registration is the new simplified Government of India process for micro, small and medium enterprise registration under Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME). 

​

It has replaced the earlier Udyog Aadhaar process from 1st July 2020 with an all-paperless, Aadhaar-authenticated process-linked to PAN and GST systems as a step to minimize paperwork and human errors.

After so, you have digitally verifiable Udyam Registration Certificate with a 16-digit special Udyam Number and QR code linking you with your MSME profile.

The certificate is not an eyewash—it's the door to government schemes, loans, tenders, and legal protection for MSMEs.

Who can register under Udyam? 

Any Indian company that falls under the definition of MSME can and should register itself under Udyam. They are: 

• Manufacturers (food processing industries, textiles, electronics) 

• Retail traders and merchants 

• Service enterprises (consultants, designers, software firms) 

• Solo-entrepreneurs and freelancers working independently 

• Start-ups and newly established entities 

• Exporters and small merchants 

• Women entrepreneurs running home-based or small businesses

Udyam Registration Documents Required

It is paperless and self-declaration. You will, however, need the following information: 

• Owner/partner/director Aadhaar number 

• Individual and entity PAN card 

• GST number (if any) 

• Business name and registered office 

• Nature of business (service/manufacturing) 

• Number of employees 

• Bank account number 

• Email id and mobile number associated with Aadhaar

Shift from Udyog Aadhaar to Udyam 

You'll have to re-register in Udyam if you are already registered in Udyog Aadhaar (UAM). As per government rules: 

  

• UAM-based registration is valid only up to 31st March 2021 

• MSME benefits will be available only if you migrate to the Udyam portal
